PARROT TALK
Question: "My parrot often looks like he's choking when he's eating, and sometimes when he's sitting on my arm. Why does he do this?" - Anonymous
Answer: Birds regurgitate their food to feed their babies and sometimes each other. It's a form of affection and means they are comfortable and happy. It does look like they are choking, but they are simply trying to feed you as they view you as part of their flock. - S.O

Question: "When I scratch my parrot's head she insists on picking at my freckles or scabs on my fingers. Why does she do this, and should I discourage it?" - Mary
Answer: Hi Mary, When you scratch your parrot's head you are preening her, she wants to return the favor by preening you back. This is normal and doesn't need to be discouraged unless she's hurting you.
Hilo likes to preen around my finger nails and will get a little carried away sometimes with any loose skin. I let him know when he hurts me, but I don't discourage preening because it's a natural part of being a parrot. - S.O
